WHAT ARE BORED PIERS

Bored Piers are used to transfer high structural loads into lower load bearing soils or rock. They are high capacity cast in situ, Bored piles can be used as a group in retention piling or as individuals. hydraulic rotary drilling rigs with auger tooling.

METHOD

Piling rig set up with Kelly bar and auger tooling are used to bore the piles. Planning is key when drilling bored piles, once the rig is set up and aligned piles are drilled to the required depth, depending on soil conditions or ground water, casing or slurry techniques may used. Once desired depths are reached pile reinforcement is set in place and filled with concrete. ROCKEND DRILLING are capable of Bored Piers in a range from 450mm to 1200mm diameter and 30 meters deep.

CONTINUOUS FLIGHT AUGER (CFA)

Continuous flight auger Piles (CFA) are be used to transfer high structural loads into unstable ground conditions where conventional open hole drilling is not suitable. CFA piles are cast in place non displacement piles using a hollow stem auger. Because the auger provides support to the shaft there is no need for casings or slurry techniques.

PROCESS

The single hollow stem auger is drilled the desired depth. Once desired depth has been reached the auger is slowly removed as concrete is pumped through the hollow stem to construct a continuous pile with no defects, once concrete has been installed, reinforcement cages are lowered into the fluid concrete. The process is carefully controlled, monitored and recorded using rig mounted computer systems.
